Leslie N. Sebasty Jr.

NEW CARLISLE - Leslie N. Sebasty Jr., 82, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 1, 2014, in his home. He was born on June 2, 1932, to the late Leslie N. Sr. and Florence (House) Sebasty in New Carlisle, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Belinda Russell Hancock, and two brothers, Carl and Paul Sebasty. Les graduated in 1951 from New Carlisle High School, and then served his country from 1952-1954. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Les was raised and worked on the family farm and was the eldest of 5 children. After serving in the military, he continued farming until 1972. He received several awards during his years as a Dairy Farmer. For several years he worked as commercial truck driver hauling milk. Les then went to work for the St. Joseph County Highway Department for 25 years. He was employed with them from 1987 until his retirement in 2012. On April 22, 1953, he married Rebekah Serene at Maple Lane United Methodist Church in South Bend, IN. Les is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rebekah of New Carlisle, IN; one daughter, Susan (Alan) Markley of New Carlisle, IN; one son, Wayne (Shauna) Sebasty of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Nicole Russell, Sarah (Paul) Kerridge, Benjamin Markley, Evan Sebasty, Julia Sebasty; one sister, Martha (Dan) Milliken; two brothers, Kenneth (Elaine) Sebasty and Dennis Sebasty. Les was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend, IN. He was an avid bowler for 30-plus years in the American Bowling Congress Association and received several awards. Les loved all sports; was happily married to his wife Rebekah, and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 8 p.m. EST Friday, December 5, 2014, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, and from 10 11 a.m. EST Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 W. Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, South Bend, IN. Cremation will follow.
