SOUTH BEND - Jadwiga "Harriet" Kosmala, 83, passed away at 10:57 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2009, in Memorial Hospital. Harriet was born on December 27, 1925, in Navew, Poland, to the late Antone and Maria (Rusitowicz) Zakiewicz. On June 26, 1946, she married Stanley Kosmala in Germany, who passed away on July 20, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Anthony and Casimir; and by a grandson, Eric Zachary. She is survived by her three children, Stella Broskey, Donna (Michael) Zachary and Richard (Beckie) Kosmala, all of South Bend; five grandchildren, Michelle (Randy) Randolph, Theodore (Junell) Broskey, Adam (Heather) Zachary, Dana (Ben) Kosmala-Runkle and Richard Kosmala Jr.; and 10 great-grandchildren. Harriet was a parishioner at St. Adalbert Catholic Church and a member of the Harvest House. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and she loved her flowers. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 11, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
