Marie J. (DeMeyer) Amberg, 84, of South Bend, Ind., and Donnell Lake, Mich., passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, June 30, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Marie was born on Aug. 30, 1914, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Octave and Helena (Accoe) DeMeyer.
On April 16, 1934, she married Carl F. Amberg, who survives.She is also survived by her sons, Donald Amberg and his wife Eleanor of South Bend, and Edwin Amberg and his wife Kay of South Bend; three brothers, Raymond DeMeyer and Albert DeMeyer of South Bend, and George DeMeyer of LaPorte, Ind.; six grandchildren, Pat and Kim Higgins, Michael Amberg, Derrick Amberg, Barry and Dannette Amberg, Laura and Randy Turley, and Jon Amberg; and by 14 great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by a brother, Charles DeMeyer. South Bend Tribune 7/2/1999 Mrs. Amberg was employed for 24 years by the A&P Tea Company as a checker, and later as a manager of the dry goods department. Marie was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, the Augustana Organization, Good Sam's Camping Club, Indiana State Campers, Retiree Chapter of NCHA, and the Donnell Lake Association. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 2, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind. Services and celebration of the life of Marie Amberg will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 Haney Street, South Bend, with one hour visitation prior to services. Pastor Denise Grant will officiate. Entombment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.Donations may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
