SOUTH BEND - Josephine Bergman, 85, of South Meade Street, died of natural causes at 2 a.m. Monday in her home. Mrs. Bergman retired from South Bend Clinic and was a self-employed caterer. She was born Jan. 8, 1908, in Lodz, Poland, and lived in South Bend for 44 years, coming from Poland. In Poland, as Josephine Kowalski, she married Alfonse Bergman. He died in 1966. She is survived by a son, John of Richardson, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was a member of Harvest House of St. Adalbert's Catholic Church and Polish National Alliance Lodge 83. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in St. Joseph Funeral Home, where combined rosary will be said at 7 p.m. by the parish and Harvest House. South Bend Tribune 1/6/1994
