GRANGER -- John N. Carlson, 65, of Granger, died Thursday (April 19, 2007) in his home. He was born on Aug. 4, 1941, in South Bend to Edward and Dorothy (Blair) Carlson. On Nov. 11, 1970, in South Bend, he married Donna Huffman. She survives along with one brother, Edward (Phyllis) Carlson Jr. of South Bend; one sister, Shirley Ornat of Fort Wayne; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Edgar of Sante Fe, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and the Rev. Gregory Fiechtner will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Mr. Carlson has been a lifetime area resident, graduating from Mishawaka High School in 1959. He served his country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1969, earning a Combat Service Medal, Air Medal and Commendation Medal with V device with three oak-leaf clusters. He was a member of American Legion Post 143, Bristol, VFW Post 360, Mishawaka, a life member of DAV Chapter 19, Elkhart, and Moose Lodge Chapter 73, Elkhart. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, South Bend. Memorials may be given to DAV Chapter 73, 1205 Middleton Run Road, Elkhart, IN 46516.
