Brother Robert Eugene Berthiaume, C.S.C., age 86, died on February 18, 2021 at Dujarié House in Notre Dame, IN. He was born in Superior, WI, the oldest of two sons of Norbert and Ardis (Neros) Berthiaume. He attended both Cathedral elementary school and high school in Superior. From 1952-54 he attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, and then he entered the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1954 taking final vows in 1958. From 1957 through 2001, Brother Robert served as a teacher, guidance counselor and/or assistant principal at schools throughout the Midwest: Archbishop Hoban, H.S., Akron, OH, St. Edward HS, Lakewood, OH, Gilmour Academy, Gates Mills, OH, Holy Cross HS, River Grove, IL and Bishop David HS, Louisville, KY. From 2001-2007, he was the Resident Counselor for Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN, and he was the director of the Holy Cross Brothers Community from 2008-2019. His final years were spent at Dujarié House at Holy Cross Village. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at St. Joseph Chapel from 10 to 11 AM on the campus of Holy Cross College at Notre Dame, IN. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by Father Timothy O’Connor, C.S.C., followed with interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery of Holy Cross Village. Because of the pandemic, attendance is restricted to family members and members of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
