CDR Albert C. Garbak, USN (Ret) Feb. 28, 1915 - Dec. 16, 2003 Commander Albert "Al" C. Garbak was born in Lorain, Ohio & passed away in Walnut Creek, CA on December 16, 2003 at the age of 88. He joined the Navy as a seaman at age 17 & served during World War II & the Korean War. He retired after 33 years of service as a Commander. Al served on the USS New York, Nashville, Nassau, Montague, Rendova & Pine Island. Other duty stations were in Great Lakes, IL, Oxford, Ohio, Saipan, Guam, Philadelphia, PA Norfolk, VA, San Diego, CA, Yokosuka, Japan & Oakland, CA. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as an Office Manager at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold Law Firm in San Francisco, CA. Upon his second retirement, he & his wife of 56 years traveled and cruised extensively through Europe & the Americas. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, daughter Beth & son-in-law John Schroeder of Clovis, CA; son John Garbak & daughter-in-law Ann of Falls Church, VA; daughter Judy & son-in-law Ken Ottaviano of Concord, CA; grandchildren Bryan (wife Jennifer), Alan & Kevin Schroeder; Jim, Helen, Mary & Claire Garbak; Ben Ottaviano (wife Jackie). Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors. Ouimet Bros. Chapel (925) 682-4242. Published in Contra Costa Times from Dec. 19 to Dec. 24, 2003.
