SOUTH BEND - Rose Marie Kromkowski, 80, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2008, in Lee Memorial Hospital, Ft. Myers, FL. Rose Marie was born on January 5, 1928, in South Bend, to Peter and Rose (Kovacs) Vakarich, and was a lifelong resident. On June 26, 1948, in Our Lady of Hungary Church, as Rose Marie Vakarich, she married Richard "Dick" Kromkowski, who preceded her in death on October 11, 1987. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Pamela Jean Kromkowski in 1954; and her sister, Barbara Babbitt in 2006. Survivors include her son, Robert (Gerri) Kromkowski of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Becky Jo (Kelly) Drews of Noblesville, IN, Beth Marie (Jason) Dipert of South Bend, IN and Brian Richard Kromkowski of South Bend, IN; five great-grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Borror, Jacob Douglas Dipert, Olivia Marie Dipert, Connor Kelly Drews, and Carson David Drews; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Vargo; two brothers-in-law, Jerome (Claire) Kromkowski and Ronald Dahms; a special niece, Toni Rae (Tim) Hurley of Cape Coral, FL; and many nieces, nephews and family friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2008, in Corpus Christi Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. followed by a Golden Cluster and Legion of Honor Service. Rose Marie was a 1946 graduate of Washington High School. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, the American Legion Pulaski Post #357 Ladies Auxiliary, Golden Cluster, a lifetime member of M.R. Falconettes Nest #4, 6th District Legion of Honor Circle; and holder of the Legion of Honor Gold Star, Polonaise Club at Little Flower Church, the Forever Learning Institute. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care Center, American Cancer Society, or to the American Heart Association.
