SOUTH BEND - Richard E. Adamski, 86, passed away at 1:12 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, in Memorial Hospital. Richard was born on August 18, 1925, to the late Edward and Stella Adamski. On July 2, 1955, Richard married Lucille (Lichner), who preceded him in death on August 17, 2001. Richard is survived by a sister-in-law, Theresa Fisher of West Chester, OH; cousins, Stanley Bikowski of South Bend, Sister Paula Bikowski of Ionia, MI; nieces, Eileen Alwine of Osceola, Janice Chapman and Susan Maggio of South Bend; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Richard honorably served his country in the United States Army as a medic. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr. Richie was very active in American Legion Post 357 as Past Commander; he was Post Chaplain for 14 years, making sure all veterans received a proper military funeral honors; he was also past District 3 Commander, Past State Commander, VFW, 40 & 8 Club, Moose, and Woodmen of the World. He was employed at Studebaker and South Bend Range as an assembler. He loved his family and his country, Rich had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and he loved smoking his pipe and cigars. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor nurses, staff and Dr. Nasser at Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm today, February 9, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, February 10, 2012, in St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Catholic Church, 415 N. Brookfield. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosier Boys State and Pet Refuge. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
