SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth F. "Betty" Kolber, 95, passed away at 1:04 a.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Hospice House. Elizabeth was born on December 5, 1913, in South Bend, to the late Stefan and Francesca Trzaskowski. On April 11, 1942, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Elizabeth married the love of her life, Walter F. Kolber Jr., who passed away on January 7, 1982. Elizabeth was the last survivor of 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Lim of South Bend; grandchildren, Karla (Ron) Baker and Amy (Kevin) Williams; great-grandchildren, Colton, Seth, Kaidyn, Sam, Kamryn, Sydney and Sara; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. As Elizabeth Trask she was crowned the first May Queen at the YWCA in 1923. Elizabeth worked at J.C. Penney's before retiring in 1979. Her family always came first. She was a stand-in grandma to her niece, Michele Folk's children, Kyle and Karly. She was a member of the Polish Women's Alliance of America, the Golden Cluster and Harvest House. She played cards with the same group of friends for 45 years. She especially enjoyed playing checkers every week with her niece, Anita Schroeder, and playing bingo at Milton House. She was a loving, caring and supportive mother and grandmother who will always be in our hearts. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, January 6, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 922 E.
