SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE APRIL 1936:
"Family in court over property controversy and on guardianship of mother."
While Mrs. Kubisiak, age 83 of 1631 Sibley, remained at home in her wheel chair, too feeble to go into court herself, members of her family appeared today before Superior Judge Elmer Peak to settle a controversy over her guardianship.
Mrs. Donald Jester, 762 Portage Ave. a daughter filed the petition, asserting her mother should be protected against others seeking to acquire her property. The petition was opposed in an answer signed by Mrs. Kubisiak herself, alleging that she is of sound mind & capable of managing her affairs. She is a widow. Chief figure in the defense is a son, Michael.
The hearing adjoured at noon with evidence that far presented, & concerned chiefly with $10,000 in per personal property & the two parcels of real estate held by Mrs Kubisiak. Her son and daughter dispute ownership. According to the testimony offered by the petitioner, Mrs. Kubisiak transferred half of her personal property to the children, some of it before her husband died."
