Dec. 7, 1922 - July 8, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Daniel "Danny" Rychuralski, 87, passed away at 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010. Danny was born on December 7, 1922, in East Chicago, Indiana, to the late John Rychuralski and Mary (Krol) Rychuralski. On January 7, 1943, in South Bend, he married Virginia Udell. Virginia died in June 2008. He was also preceded in death by his son Bob in 2007, and by two brothers, Gene and Albert. Danny was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He fought in the battle at Normandy receiving the American Theater ribbon with two bronze stars. Danny returned from the war and worked at Studebaker and the E.J. & E. Railroad Co. Danny then spent 23 years with the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring from the postal service in 1983, Danny and Virginia spent 14 wonderful, fun- filled years in Apache Junction, Arizona. Among Danny's hobbies were woodworking and motorcycles. Danny could transform a block of wood into a beautiful key rack, napkin holder or magazine rack. We will all treasure our handmade "gifts by Danny." Danny's favorite hobby was riding motorcycles, and it is thought that he owned seven motorcycles in his lifetime. Danny owned and rode motorcycles until he was in his late seventies. Danny is survived by his daughter, Peggy Rychuralski; his son, Tom (Rosie) Rychuralski of Avon Park, Florida; his granddaughter and grandson, Bridget and Mike Filipski of Granger; his great-grandchildren, Tony, Jessica and Danny Filipski, all of Granger; his cousin, Cindy Melczek of Gahanna, OH; and two nephews, Pete and Tim Wasniewski of South Bend. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 12, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior in Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Northeast Indiana, 802 West Wayne Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802-3996. For those unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
