Jeanne V. (Jones) Moon
August 2, 1917 ~ February 2, 2022 (age 104)
Jeanne V. Moon, 104 years old, passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at her home. Jeanne was born on August 2, 1917 in Grant County, IN to the late Everett L. and Neta A. (Frantz) Jones. She has lived in South Bend since 1936, moving from Marion, IN. On November 12, 1938 in Plymouth, IN, Jeanne and Floyd F. Moon were united in marriage. Her husband, just shy of their 50th anniversary of marriage, preceded her in death on May 25, 1988. One daughter, Rebecca McKown, also preceded her in death on December 17, 2020. Jeanne is survived by her two daughters, Melinda (Tom Clayton) Moon of Tucson, AZ and Jane E. Moon of N. Ft. Myers, FL; son, Robert (Sharon) Moon of Ball Ground, GA; granddaughter, Laura (Jonathan) Barber; and great grandson, Travis (Jessica) Barber. Jeanne has been a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church. She has had an interesting life. She worked 4 years at Associates Insurance and spent three months one summer in England. Two weeks of that time, Jeanne toured Europe visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. In 1990, she was able to attend the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany with a church group. Jeanne was a member of the Eastern Star Masonry. However, her greatest pride is being a descendant of a person who was with George Washington when he crossed the Delaware River and fought in the battle of Princeton and Trenton. Surviving that battle, Washington’s troops returned to camp at Valley Forge and endured a cold winter. She also had 11 other relatives that served in the Revolutionary War. Being a descendant of a revolutionary fighter, she qualified to be a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. She served as Registrar of the local Schuyler Colfax chapter for 4 years. Jeanne had no secrets for living a long life. She lived each day as it came and relied on her Methodist Christian upbringing for faith and strength. A private graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend is assisting. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jeanne V. Moon may be donated to Purdue University for Cancer Research, 610 Purdue Mall, West Lafayette, IN 47907. Online condolences may be offered to the Moon family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
