SOUTH BEND - Irene G. Deranek, 87, went to be with Jesus at 4:10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, in Morningside Nursing Home. Irene was born May 29, 1920, in Streeter, IL, to Joseph and Margaret (Devero) Ketchmark. On May 25, 1940, Irene married Arthur R. Deranek, and they have been together for 67 years. Cherishing her memory are her husband, Arthur; a son, Tom Deranek of Chattanooga, TN; a sister, Madaline Szabo; and a dear friend, Faye Schulze of South Bend. Irene was a parishioner at St. Jude Catholic Church. She loved her house and spent many hours cleaning it before her illness in September 2006. She also was a big fan of Notre Dame sports. She worked at Bendix and owned her own beauty shop. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Irene's name to the St. Joseph County Humane Society.
