Obituary: Joseph John Fujawa
May 3, 1932 -- December 29, 2004
Joseph John Fujawa, age 72, of Mishawaka passed away Wednesday morning, December 29, 2004 in his home.
Joe was born May 3, 1932 in Mishawaka, a son of Joseph and Agnes (Deren) Fujawa. He grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from South Bend Central Catholic High School in 1950. Joe served his country in the US Navy from 1952-1956. On May 4, 1957 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, he married the former Patricia Ann Ryback. The couple made their home in Mishawaka where they raised their family.
Joe was formerly the manager of the Mishawaka Water Utilities. He retired in 2002 from Earth Exploration, Inc. (formerly Shilts & Graves) in South Bend. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. A favorite hobby of Joe's was Amateur Radio. He loved animals; particularly dogs and cats and he enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. Joe was also active in local Mishawaka politics.
His surviving family includes his wife, Patricia; their three children, Michele Fujawa of South Bend, Andrea (Aric) Rutkowski of South Bend, and Patrick (Ellen) Fujawa of Greenwood, Indiana; and three
grandchildren, Peter Rutkowski, Jenny Fujawa and Ed Fujawa. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Matthew Deren, M.D.
Friends may spend time with Joe's family on Wednesday from 4:00 -- 7:00 pm in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions are suggested St. Joseph Church or Pet Refuge. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
