MISHAWAKA - Delores Jean Schlarb, 78, of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2010, in her residence surrounded by her family. Dee was born on February 16, 1932, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of the late Frank and Esther (Stief) Beutter. On January 3, 1953, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as Delores Jean Beutter, she married Donald D. Schlarb, who preceded her in death on July 5, 2006, with "Dee" at his side. Surviving "Dee" are her loving children: two daughters, Peggy Thornton of Mishawaka and Jeanne (Jeff) Beers of Mishawaka, and a son, Phil (Jody) Schlarb of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Hailey Thornton, Jared and Julia Beers, Morgan and Amanda Schlarb; one brother, George (Zuella) Beutter of Mishawaka; and one sister, Lois Meissner of Wakarusa. "Dee" and her husband Don were lifelong farmers by trade and stuck with it for the sheer love of farming; "Dee" and Don were the founders of Hilltop Farms and Hilltop Trucking. "Dee" was a proud wife, mother, and granny to her family. "Dee" was a kind and outgoing person who was always willing to help others. The family would like to say a special THANK YOU to Dr. Jason Marker and Crissy Roush and all the caregivers who were so helpful and kind to "Dee" during the last couple of years. Your kindness will never be forgotten. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 10, 2010, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 14th, in the funeral home, with Rev. David Porterfield, CSC, officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Woodland. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the 4-H of Madison Township.
