MISHAWAKA - Marilyn H. Zelasko, 77, passed away July 2, 2011. Survivors include brothers, William (Julia) Karieva Jr., and Donald (Carol) Kareiva ; nieces, Karen Dunbar and Sharon Kareiva; and a great nephew, Michael Dunbar. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Casimir Cemetery in Chicago. MISHAWAKA - Marilyn H. Zelasko, 77, entered into eternal life July 2, 2011. She was born January 16, 1934, in Chicago, IL, to William J. and Helen M. (Brazauskas) Kareiva. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Stazy Zelasko; and nephews, Donald Kareiva, Jr. and Phillip Kareiva. Surviving to cherish her memory are her brothers, William (Julia) Kareiva Jr. of Berwyn, IL, and Donald (Carol) Kareiva of Valparaiso, IN. She was a loving aunt to her nieces, Karen Dunbar of Valparaiso and Sharon Kareiva of Berwyn, IL; and to her great-nephew, Michael Dunbar of Chicago. Marilyn loved being a longtime member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church community. She was a member of the D-G Post 271 of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was also active with groups in seeking legislation and support for providing public access for handicapped persons, having been confined herself to a wheelchair for 55 years as a result of being one of the last polio victims. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Granger, IN, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Casimir Cemetery in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Home Bound Ministry at St. Pius X Parish, 52553 Fir Rd, Granger, IN 46530.
