MISHAWAKA - Chester Tarnacki, 82, of 530 Tanglewood, died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Tarnacki retired from Rasmussen's Clothing Store as a salesman. He was born July 17, 1912, in Wyandotte, Mich., and lived in the area for over 50 years. On Sept. 14, 1940, in South Bend, he married Florence L. Tarwacki. She died Dec. 3, 1986. He is survived by two daughters, Diane Huffman of Nina, Wis., and Susan Divine of Miami; a son, Terry of Novi, Mich.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Budzinski of Wyandotte; and a friend, Evelyn Peterman. He was a member of the Elks, Achievement Forum and St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, and served as a Santa Claus at local hospitals and nursing homes for many years. He was inducted into the Indiana and Michigan Softball Hall of Fame as a pitcher. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church. Private entombment will be in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend.
