FYI: My uncle was James Stamas but the Greek version of his name would have possibly been Dimitri Stamatopolos. I knew about the postential first name but I never heard the Surname referred to in this way. The birth date I have is 10/12/1922 but I can only assume it is correct as I don't have any documents to confirm it. His brother was George and his parents were John (Iannes) Stamas and Jennie. I believe George was about 2 years younger and I believe he died in Terra Haute from an appendicitis problem. I am assuming this since I know he was fairly young and I understand my uncle Jimmy spent several years in school in Terra Haute before they moved to Utah. It has been said the parents operated a restaurant in Terra Haute and since they ran an ice cream store after they came to Illinois I think this is probably correct. My guess is that they came here in the late 30s or early 40s because my uncle and aunt married in December of 1945 and had known each other for several years. My uncle was in WW2 and he was a prisoner of war for 15 months. He was only 59 when he died in 1981. His mother died in 1997 at the age of 100! That's about all I have that might be of some help. I did check census records but couldn't find them in any which may be due to using various versions of the name--although I think I checked most probabilities. I thought access to the birth records could be helpful but evidently Indiana thinks otherwise! I appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!
