Feb. 25, 1916 - Jan. 5, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Gertrude Winkiewicz Ritchie, 96, passed away at 8:05 am Saturday, January 5, 2013, in her daughter's residence. Gertrude was born February 25, 1916, in South Bend, to the late John and Frances (Przybysz) Olejniczak. On May 18, 1935, Gertrude married Clem Winkiewicz; he preceded her in death on July 2, 1979; and on June 25, 1983, Gertrude married her 2nd husband, Charles W. Ritchie; he also preceded her in death on July 4, 2005. Gertrude was also preceded in death by her sisters, Josephine Kanczuzewski, Mary Kanczuzewski, Louise Lisek, Sophie Hudak and Helen Siatkowski; and brothers, Bert and Stanley Olejniczak. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Tom) Lukaszewski; grandchildren, Martin (Jean) Lukaszewski of Minneapolis, Michelle (Ray) Pendl of South Bend, Melissa (Jeff) Murawski of South Bend, Melanie (Dewey) Dolph of New Carlisle and Mary (Brian) Bowers of South Bend; great-grandchildren, Sarah (Travis) Abbiehl, Stephanie Bowers, Brittanie Bowers, all of South Bend, Dewey S. Dolph V and Delaney Dolph of New Carlisle; one great-great-granddaughter on the way, Madison Elizabeth Abbiehl; and many nieces and nephews. Gertrude was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church; during her lifetime she was employed with Wilson Brothers, J.C. Penney's and at the City/County Building as a Mortgage Exemptions Clerk. Gertrude was a member of the Polish Women Democratic Club, and Ft. Wayne/South Bend Cursillo; she enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, and word searches, and she was an avid bingo player, loved to play cards with her family, and was a Notre Dame sports fan. Visitation for Gertrude will be held 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, January 9, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, January 10, 2013, in Holy Family Catholic Church, where there will be a one hour visitation prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637; or Holy Family Building Fund, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, Indiana 46619; or the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, P.O.
