SOUTH BEND - Margaret Theresa Houghton, 93, passed away at 8:40 PM Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at her home. She was born on May 25, 1921 in Saginaw, MI to the late Robert and Elsie (Bushald) Kemski. She moved to South Bend in 1928 coming from Detroit. On February 12, 1949 in South Bend, IN she married James Edward Houghton who survives. Margaret graduated from Riley High School in 1940 and from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing-Mishawaka in 1943. She served as a Registered Nurse for 8 years in various doctor’s offices and then with South Bend Community School Corporation. Margaret was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, South Bend. Along with her loving husband, James she is also survived by her two sons, James Stephan (Celeste) Houghton of Mishawaka and Richard John (Melissa) Houghton of Washington, DC; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Edward) Thompson, Matthew Houghton, Paul Houghton, Andrew Houghton and Charlotte Houghton; and four great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 13th at St. Anthony’s, 2120 E. Jefferson Blvd, South Bend. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7:00 PM Friday at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend and Saturday at St. Anthony’s from 9:30 AM until time of mass. Expressions of sympathy to the Houghton family may be offered to The Homeless Center, 813 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601 or to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
