SOUTH BEND - Viola T. Herczeg, 90, passed away at 8:35 pm Sunday, June 18, 2017, in Memorial Hospital. Viola was born on February 1, 1927, in South Bend, to John and Vera (Arch) Tamandli. She was employed by Allied Building Credits and then was a domestic engineer. Vi was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church, its St. Ann Society, a room mother and a Blue Bird Leader. She loved animals, especially her dogs, and going shopping. On May 7, 1949, in South Bend, she married Joseph J. Herczeg, Jr. He died on May 2, 2011. Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Randy) Murowski of Lakeville; a son, John (Cari) Herczeg of South Bend; two grandchildren, Ashley (Phillip) DeSouza and John Herczeg; and two great-grandchildren, Nikolas and Mason DeSouza. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, June 23, 2017, in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Cremation will follow, with burial of her cremated remains at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 4-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm.
