SOUTH BEND - Michael J. Nowaczewski Sr., 79, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007, in his residence. Michael was born on May 1, 1927, in South Bend, to the late George and Lottie (Papczynski) Nowaczewski. Also preceding him in death were three siblings, Mary McNeal, George Jr. and Brother Leonard "Victor" Nowaczewski, OFM. He married Virginia (Losicki) on September 6, 1952, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. She survives along with their two children, Vivian Nowaczewski of Indianapolis, IN, and Michael (Liz) Nowaczewski Jr. of South Bend; a granddaughter, Sara (Thomas) Swizek of South Bend; his sister, Margaret Saul; and his brother, Stanley Nowaczewski of South Bend. Michael honorably served during WWII in the Navy and during the Korean War with the U.S. Marines. Michael worked at Studebaker and A.M. General. He was a member at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Terre Coupee, and he loved taking care of his yard and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed working logic puzzles. Visitation will be today, March 6, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. MAYFLOWER ROAD, SOUTH BEND, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Terre Coupee. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. For those unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences for the family may be sent to www.sjfh.net.
