Bernice Nowicki, 99, formerly of West Huron Street, passed away in the Saint Joseph Care Center at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, just seven days shy of her 100th birthday. She was born on February 15, 1905, in South Bend, to John and Mary Ann (Rakowski) Otolski, who preceded her in death along with six brothers, Chester, Marion, Stanley, Frank, John and Clem Otolski; and three sisters, Marie, Martha and Lillian. Surviving Bernice are two sons, Bernard J. (and the late Mary Anne) Nowicki and Stanley M. (Evelyn) Nowicki, both of South Bend; two grandchildren, Linda (Ben) Karasiak of Granger and Susan (Michael) Ceglarek of South Bend; and five great-grandchildren, Shera, Kacie, Karie, Brittany and Ryan. Bernice retired in 1961 from Notre Dame, and she was a member of St. Adalbert Church. Visitation will be today, February 10, 2005, from 3 to 8 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 11, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. Adalbert Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Adalbert Church, 2420 Huron Street, South Bend, IN 46619. Family and friends may deliver any 100th birthday cards to the family at the funeral home during visitation.
