South Bend - Kenneth G Karkiewicz Sr., 74, passed away on Wednesday. Ken was born on July 10, 1946 in South Bend to Leo and Elizabeth Louise Karkiewicz. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo. On February 19, 1966 Ken married Susan Elaine (Queen) Karkiewicz. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2020. Left to cherish Ken’s memory are his sons, Kenneth G.(Jackie) Karkiewicz, Jr. & Kevin J. (Tanya) Karkiewicz, grandchildren, Amber, Matty, Kevin Jr., & Kristin Karkiewicz, and Josh Howard, two great-grandchildren, brothers, Thomas (Kathleen} Karkiewicz and Gerald (Robyn) Karkiewicz. Ken was the Chief of the Riverside Fire Dept. in Three Oaks, MI from 1976 - 1979. He was a member of the Mazda Miata Club of Chicago, American Rifleman's Club, a lifetime member of the NRA and gun enthusiast. Ken was a proud Republican who liked to express the weaknesses of other political parties. He worked as a Product Manager of Plastics Engineering for various companies over the years, owning many patents in his name for his inventions. Ken had a knack for figuring out how things were made and would try improving and inventing a better option. He was an avid Notre Dame “Irish” and Chicago Bears football fan. Ken enjoyed camping trips with his family, watching auto events at the South Bend Motor Speedway, traveling to Mackinaw Island with his wife, and his passion for history led him on adventure trips to historical places. Ken was a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday, May 24, 2021 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, S. Mayflower Rd. with a funeral service beginning at 5:00 pm. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
