SOUTH BEND - Mary Ann Chapo, age 89, passed away on October 17, 2015. Mary Ann was born on November 17, 1925, in South Bend, Indiana. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. She married Joe Chapo in 1951 and worked at Studebaker until they welcomed the first of their three sons, Ken, followed by Joe and John. Joe and Mary Ann loved playing cards, the outdoors, family gatherings, remodeling their home, and dancing. Mary Ann lost her beloved Joe in 1984, and has spent the past 31 years waiting patiently to see him again. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mary Olga Zugonitz Nagy and John G. Nagy; her brothers, Eugene and John Robert (Bob) Nagy; and her daughter-in-law, LouAnn Drudge Chapo. She is survived by her brother, Patrick (Byrd); sons, Ken (Penny), Joe (Sherry), and John (Tracie); grandchildren, Jessie, Josh, Joe, Zach, Steve, Kaylee, Justin, Ian, Kyle, Erik; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Addie, and Sean. She developed a love of traveling and her trips included the Black Hills, Kenya, Hawaii, and Tanzania. She will be remembered for her take-charge attitude, wonderful Hungarian cooking, feeding and watching the songbirds, and her exceptionally large and varied collection of turtles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, October 23, 2015, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm.
