SOUTH BEND - Mary M. Nawrot, 95, of Hamilton Grove, New Carlisle, and formerly of Diamond Avenue, South Bend, passed away on December 4, 2014, at Hospice House of St. Joseph County after a brief illness. Mary was born July 22, 1919, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Frank and Stella (Walkowiak) Rogers. On October 1, 1949, at St. Stanislaus Church in South Bend, Mary married Theodore A. Nawrot, who preceded her in death on November 21, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jane (Rogers) Langel. She is survived by her son, Roger Nawrot, and his wife, Maria, along with two grandchildren, Courtney (Nicholas) Hintz of Mishawaka and Leigh Ann (Bradley) Lunz of Lakeland, Florida; and three great-grandchildren, Gabriella Hintz, Collin Hintz and Avery Lunz. Mary graduated from South Bend Catholic High School. She worked in retail most of her life, first at Wymen's Department Store, and then for 25 years at the Robertson's Department Store in the Boys Department, where she retired from. Mary was a lifelong parishioner of St. Stanislaus Parish, South Bend. Mary loved flowers and taking care of them in her yard. She enjoyed watching Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football games with the family and listening to music. Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren were very special to her. She looked forward to visits from them. The family wishes to thank both staffs from the Health Care and Assisted Living sections of Hamilton Grove for looking after Mary the past eight years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at the St. Stanislaus B.M. Church in South Bend, with Rev. Edmund Sylvia, C.S.C., officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 520 Crescent Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617; or the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545-5234.
