SOUTH BEND - Gertrude H. Burkhart, 96, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 in Memorial Hospital. Gertrude was born October 30, 1916 in South Bend to the late William and Stella (Bejma) Napieralski. Gertrude married Richard Burkhart; he preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Gerald E. (Judith K.) Burkhart of South Bend; grandson, Bradley A. (Farrah) Burkhart of Elkhart; great-granddaughter, Bailey Burkhart of Elkhart; and great-grandson, Brady Burkhart of Elkhart. Gertrude retired in 1972 from the University of Notre Dame. She was a parishioner of St. Hedwig Catholic Church where she belonged to the Golden Clusters. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandson and great-grandchildren. Visitation for Gertrude will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Rosary to be prayed at 5:00 pm. A Funeral Ceremony will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 25, 2013 in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery.
