CROWN POINT- Olga Harlow-Paris' culinary skills won rave reviews from many.
Daughter Julie Samarzija said everyone loved her mother's version of stuffed cabbage. Her grandson, Doug DeLor, even video taped her preparing the dish so her special recipe would be preserved forever. Mrs. Harlow-Paris also made excellent nut rolls, poppy seed rolls, and cookies. She was known for her cherry slices. Samazija recalled her mother donated many of her baked goods to functions and fund-raisers at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Merrillville. Mrs. Harlow-Paris, 81, a lifelong area resident, died Aug. 3. When she wasn't busy in her kitchen, Mrs. Harlow-Paris' interest turned to the arts. She enjoyed reading, especially poetry, and listening to a wide variety of music. "She loved people," Samarzija added. Her mother had a very unique talent of making everyone she talked to feel as though they were the most important person in her life. She is survived by six daughters, Mary Trefun of South Bend, Julie (George) Samarzija, Joan (Dick) DeLor and Sandra (Bill) Kelner of Crown Point, Darlene Harlow of Chicago and Susan Haywood of Gary; one son, Pete (Nur) Harlow of LaGuna Nigel, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson, sisters-in-law, Madonna Savage of Waynesburg, Ohio, Mabel Harlow of Valparaiso, Helen Donnelly of Rensselaer, Rose Harlow (Rose was also her niece) and Esther Johnson of Kingsford Heights, Zora Kubat, Sophie Yazich and Jinny Yazich of South Bend; many nieces and nephews. Services were held Tuesday at the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Jovan Todorovich officiating. Arrangements were handled by the Stilinovich & Wiatrolik Funeral Home in Merrillville.
Interment took place at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrilleville.
