Carolyn O. Halasz, 76, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:18 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 in her home, following an illness. She was born on September 29, 1935 to George William and Blanche (Fredking) Walsh in South Bend, IN, and lived here most of her life. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; sister Sharon Low; and brother George Walsh. Mrs. Halasz retired in 2002 from South Bend Community School Corporation, where she was a Coordinator of Title One Services for 32 years. On May 11, 1957, as Carolyn O. Walsh, she married Julius A. Halasz at Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend, IN.
She is survived by her loving husband, Julius A. Halasz of South Bend, IN; daughters, Julia (husband Jeff) Halasz-Tadajewski of South Bend, IN; Mary Catherine Halasz of Minneapolis, MN; son, James A. (wife Sue) Halasz of Lakeville, IN; five grandchildren, Amanda Tadajewski, Hope Halasz, Rebecca Tadajewski, Glenn Halasz, Alex Black; one sister, Ruth Ellen Veninga of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Robert Dale Walsh of Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law, Mary Walsh of San Diego, CA; Irene Japa of South Bend, IN; and one brother-in-law, John Low, Sr. of Tucson, AZ. Mrs. Halasz was a member of St. Joseph Parish in South Bend, IN. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Mathews, C.S.C. as the celebrant and Rev. John Patrick Riley, C.S.C. as the con-celebrant. Cremation will follow.
