SOUTH BEND - Edward J. "Stoggie Ed" Kruszewski, 83, of South Bend, IN, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. Edward was born on July 22, 1927, in South Bend, IN, to George Sr. and Blanche (Kazmierczak) Kruszewski. Edward retired in 1992 from RACO after 36 years. He then worked at the Morris Park Country Club for a number of years, taking care of the members needs and enjoying their friendship. On July 24, 1948, Edward married Dorothy Balcerzak, who preceded him in death on April 2, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Melady; sisters, Hilda Latosinski, Margaret Hayes and Gertrude Kwiatkowski; and brothers, George, Al, Clem, Ernest and Henry Kruszewski. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen Ann (Jim) Johnson of Summerville, SC; a son-in-law, Denny Melady of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Alicia Ann (Eddie) Gahagan of Charlotte, NC, Melanie Ann Johnson of Summerville, SC, James Monroe Johnson of Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandchildren, Riley and Brianna Gahagan; a step-great-granddaughter, Sierra Gahagan; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Kruszewski of South Bend, IN; and his beloved dog, Walker Texas Ranger. Edward was a WW II Air Force veteran, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9820, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 284, Veterans of Foreign War, Golden Hill, Post 8748, the Chain O Lakes Conservation Club, St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, and was a member of the Harvest House. The family would like to sincerely thank St. Joseph Rehabilitation on Elm Road for their wonderful care, the nurses at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, the staff at Healthwin Hospital, and the neighbors who helped Edward during his sickness and passing. Friends and family may visit from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
