[N31929] Carol M. (Mott) Miranda
April 26, 1934 ~ October 5, 2011 (age 77)

Carol M. Miranda, 77, residing in Granger, passed away on October 5, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born in San Francisco, CA on April 26, 1934 to the late Alphonse and Mae (Potts) Mott. Carol graduated from Notre Dame High School in Belmont, CA and received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with High Distinction from Indiana University South Bend in 1980, where she taught piano as an adjunct instructor. She began her teaching career at 15 years old, teaching neighbors for 25 cents per lesson. She has taught piano, organ and violin students in this area for the past 52 years. She was totally committed to her students, teaching her last piano and violin lessons on Sunday prior to departing for the hospital. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger.

On December 5, 1953, Carol married Dr. Thomas J. Miranda, who survives. She is also survived by five children, Michael (Jeanette) Miranda of Sioux Falls, SD, Charles (Diane Rodts) Miranda of Des Moines, IA, Irene (George) Pospolita of Bristow, VA, Caroline (Timothy) Brill of Mishawaka, IN and Prof. Julianne Miranda of Greencastle, IN; four grandchildren, Matthew Brill and Rebecca Brill, both of Muncie, IN, Nicholas Rodts-Miranda of Des Moines, IA and Susan Miranda of West St. Paul, MN; and one great granddaughter, Marianna Selas. She was preceded in death by one brother, Irving Mott.

Carol was in love with her teaching and her garden, which she called God's Garden since He restored her ability to walk twelve years ago after being diagnosed with cancer. She was an avid weeder and could spot a weed in her beautiful garden from any distance. Her three beautiful adopted greyhounds, Benne, Miki and Sweetie as well as her three cats, will miss her. Her family will always cherish her love for her students, where she provided counsel, love and caring, and for her cherished adult students, who eagerly sought out her teaching talent. We are grateful for all who supported her in her long courageous battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011 in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530, where friends may visit for one hour prior to mass. Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or Great Lakes Greyhound Rescue and Adopotion Center, PO Box 30, Westville, IN 46391-0030 (www.greatlakesgreyhound.org). Online condolences may be offered to the Miranda family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
