[N9613] Mary R. Leach
Sept. 11, 1924 - June 3, 2014

SOUTH BEND - Mary R. (Brusich) Leach, 89, residing at Sanctuary at St. Paul's, formerly of Illinois Street in South Bend, passed away quietly on June 3rd, 2014. Mary was born in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Joseph and Frances (Marecki) Brusich. She was married to the late Arthur A. Leach on February 9, 1946. Mary was employed as an elevator operator at the old 1st Bank Building and previously worked at Robertson's in the Tea Room. She loved to go polka dancing with her best lady friends. She also got the bug to go gambling by her son Jimmy who had started her out in Vegas! Once the gambling bug bit her she went on many bus trips with her lady friends. Her other favorite thing to do was to go out to eat at Rodini's in Michigan City! Even though she liked to gamble she had her limits so she could have enough money left to go out to eat! She was the youngest out of a family of seven children. She was preceded in death by Steve Lupa, Josephine Witucki, Stella Crowder, Honoratta Sciba and Peter Brusich. She is survived by one brother, Vincent (Pewee), and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Grodzicki. Mary and Arthur had three children; surviving are Drew Leach and life partner Jim VanZant, Patti (Dave) Guzowski, and Jim Leach (Deceased). Also surviving is her grandson, Adam (Bridget Harness) Guzowski. Visitation for Mary will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, June 6, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 pm Saturday, June 7, 2014, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. A special thanks to the caring staff of Heartland Hospice and Sanctuary at St. Paul's. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Sanctuary at St. Paul's.
