Donald Harayda

SOUTH BEND - Don Harayda, 86, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2013, in the comfort and care of Holy Cross Village in Notre Dame, Indiana. Don was born in Chicago, Illinois to Dorothy and Alexander Harayda. He moved with his family to LaPorte, Indiana in 1942 and graduated from LaPorte High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and, after serving in the Army Specialized Training Program at Rose Polytechnic and Indiana University, served in the U.S., Europe, and North Africa. After discharge from the Air Corps, Don attended Indiana University and graduated in 1951. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and chapter President. After a career in Human Resources and Labor Relations with several companies, he retired as Vice President, Administration from Conwed Corporation in St. Paul, Minnesota. Don was preceded in death by his son James and his brother Ken. His is survived by his former wife, Clare; his sons, Jon of Peoria, Illinois and Bob of Singapore; his grandsons, Christopher (son of James) of Minneapolis, Michael, Thomas and Stephen of Peoria, Illinois; granddaughter, Emily and grandson, James of Singapore; and great-granddaughter, Simone of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Deuitch of LaPorte, Indiana and Carol Eppert of South Bend, Indiana; and his special friend, Andree Lenglet of Sacramento, California. In lieu of a formal memorial service or flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Don's memory to the American Cancer Society , the Center for Hospice Care Hospice Foundation (South Bend), the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, or to your local library.
