SOUTH BEND - Mercedes M. Davy, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017, in her home. Mercedes was born February 23, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John and Alice (Vlazny) Malindzak. On April 27, 1952, in Chicago, Mercedes married the love of her life, Robert Davy. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2005. Mercedes was also preceded in death by a brother, John B. Malindzak. Survivors of Mercedes include her children, Michael (LuAnn) Davy, and Mary Alice (Kenneth) Cozzie, all of South Bend; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Timothy) Kubiak, Nicholas (Kate), Zachary, and Bobby (Brittany Howland) Cozzie; and great-grandchildren, Harper, Evelyn and Edward. Mercedes retired in 1988 from Chicago Ridge School District where she was a school nurse. Mercedes was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, a member Lady of the Knights of Columbus #6954 and The Christ Child Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, sports, cooking and baking, and traveling. She truly lived life to the fullest. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Visiting Angels and Hospice of St. Joseph County for their time and commitment. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 SR 933 (and Darden), South Bend, IN 46637. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Christ Child Society of South Bend, 308 S. Scott St., South Bend, IN 46601; or Hospice of St. Joseph County, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
