Florence J. Zoncick
Oct. 6, 1910 - April 28, 2008

SOUTH BEND - Florence J. Zoncick, 97, passed away on Monday, April 28, in her home. She was born on October 6, 1910, in Chicago, IL, to Lawrence and Julia Marchewka. Florence married Matthew A. Zoncick Sr. on May 12, 1937, in Chicago, and later moved to South Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and nine brothers and sisters. Florence was a homemaker most of her life and went to work later at Robertson's Department Store in South Bend where she met many friends with whom she continued friendships for many years to come. She led a good Christian life and was a member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew. Florence fondly talked about growing up in Chicago and visited there often over the years to help family. Her hobbies included sewing, reading and keeping up her home and yard. Surviving are her children, Nancy (Joe) Knauf of South Bend, Leonard (Natalie) Zoncick of South Bend and Matthew (Janice) Zoncick Jr. of Kernersville, NC; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Guia Fernandez, Florence's caregiver for the last three months and to Hospice who enabled us to have mom at home and to Ewa Bialikiewicz, her physician. Family will gather to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 2, at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Matthew for family only. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences to the family may be sent to the website www.sjfh.net.
