MISHAWAKA - Helen L. Hahaj, 79, of Mishawaka, died at 11:50 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Helen was born April 6, 1930, in Mishawaka, to the late Alphonse and Susanna (Van De Walle) Heyde. Surviving Helen are one daughter, Anne (David) White of Mishawaka; two sons, Thomas (Debbie) Hahaj of North Carolina and Michael (Pamela) Hahaj of Bridgman, MI; 10 grandchildren, Wesley and Patrick Peterson, Bethann, Susan and Casey Hahaj, Kelly (Chris) Hahaj, Justin (Kelly) Mendus, Stephen (Jamie) Schools, Stephanie (Justin) Colcord and Sarah (Jeremy) Clay; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Heyde of Edwardsburg, MI. Helen worked for Ball Band (Uniroyal) for 18 years and then worked 18 years in the receiving department at AM General before retiring in 1992. She then worked at Meijer's for 21/2 years before finally retiring in 1997. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church and the B-K Club. Visitation for Helen will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with the Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
