SOUTH BEND, IN - Carolyn M. Tihen, 77, passed away at 4:28 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. She was the daughter of Alex and Mary Kovasics of South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Carol graduated from Clay High School in 1961 and Indiana University South Bend in 1974. Carol was a dedicated teacher at Eggleston Elementary School in South Bend where she taught first grade for many years. She set up and funded an annual scholarship at her alma mater to help teaching students. Carol loved animals, especially cats, and rescued many. She gave generously of her time helping at Pet Refuge (Roxanne Ewing’s Cattery) and Hospice. Carol loved to spend time at the family lake cottage in Michigan that her father built many years ago. Funeral services will be held at a later date with burial at Highland Cemetery in South Bend, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to either of the above charities.
