Stanislava (Bucholtz) Arendt
According to the 1900 census records of South Bend, IN, Michael and Stanislawa Arendt, both born in Poland, had emigrated in 1892, and had been married 9 years. The Poznan Project lists both a civil and a religious marriage record for Michael Arendt and Stanislava Bucholtz in 1890. The WPA, Indiana, Index to Death Records, indicates that Stanislawa Arendt died 9/22/1908 in South Bend. The marriage application record of Michael Arendt to Valeria Kruszyna states that he had been married once before and that that marriage ended by death on 9/22/1908. The 1900-1910 census records indicate that the children of Michael and Stanislava Arendt included (in birth order); Wladyslaw/Walter, Czelaw/Chester, Pelagia/Blanche, Bronislawa/Bernice, Zenon, and Genoefa/Genevieve. The 1900 census says that Wladyslaw was born at sea in 1892 (which the ship manifest confirms) and the rest of the named children were all born in Indiana (i.e., Chester was not born in Poland and Walter was not born in South Bend as stated in “Immigrants to the Midwest").
