SOUTH BEND - Margaret T. Horvath, 91, passed away at 12:57 am Thursday, April 19, 2018 in Hamilton Grove Retirement Community. Margaret was born on June 11, 1926 in South Bend to Mathias “Matthew” and Leopoldina (Andert) Palkowitch in South Bend. She began work for Ball Band in 1956 and eventually retired from Uniroyal in 1987, where she was a fuel cell builder. Margaret was a member of St. Jude Church, its Rosary Sodality, Senior VIP and Mother Theresa Groups. She also had been a member of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church and its Rosary Sodality, and the D.F.V. German Club Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are a daughter, Marlene (Mark) Conn of South Bend; 4 grandchildren, Matthew Conn, Teresa Creger, Lynn Zimmerman, and Buffy Snidecki; 6 great-grandchildren, Jacob Conn, Brooke Conn, Alexanderia Weesner, Hannah Williams, Cambridge Snidecki, and Bailey Snidecki; and a brother, Joseph (Audrey) Palkowitch of South Bend. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Horvath; a son, Richard J. Horvath; and sister, Mary Stanley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Viewing will take place from 3-8 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Viewing will also take place from 9:30 am until services in the church on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
