Annie Tekler

SOUTH BEND - Ann Tekler (nee Voynovich) of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on June 14, 2014. Annie was born on November 9th, 1932, to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel (Anna Biritz) Voynovich. She married Nicholas A. Tekler on Feb. 2, 1963, and celebrated 48 years of marriage. They have 2 children, Nicholas J. and (Julie) Tekler Jr. and daughter Dawn S. Tekler. Nick Jr. resides in South Bend where he is Battalion Chief of the South Bend Fire Dept. Dawn resides in Cleveland, Ohio where she works as an Artist and in Advertising. Her first job was as an administrative assistant for Studebaker's where she proudly worked for many years until they closed, and then later as cook in various daycares around town including Early Learners Childhood Development. She was known for her love of music as she sang in the church choir and never passed up dancing a Serbian kolo in her stilettos but mostly for her deep family connections and love of selecting the perfect greeting card for any occasion. "Family comes first " was her creed. She was a lifelong member of the Circle of Serbian Sisters- Kolo as well as an accomplished bowler of more than 30 years on two leagues which included winning numerous national championships. Surviving siblings are Helen Tezich, Mildred Paslich and Olga Mihajolvich. Annie also has 5 grandchildren, Rodney, Stephen and Jared Tekler, D. Allen and Kayla Edwards and great-granddaughter, Lacey Lynn Edwards as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue on Monday, June 16th from 4 pm-8 pm where a Prayer Service will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday in the funeral home, with the burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church of Merrillville, IN or the donor's choice.
