JOSEPHINE CHESTOVICH, age 95 of Lebanon, OH, died peacefully Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Otterbein of Lebanon. She was born in Cleveland, OH on November 14, 1919 to Carl and Mary (Mencha) Kosenscky and moved to Gary, IN in 1926. Survived by her two sons: Milan Chestovich, Joe T. Chestovich; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. She was a Godmother to a number of children of close friends and relatives. Preceded in death by her husband, Joe Chestovich; father, Carl Kosenscky, stepfather, Peter Konjak; mother, Mary Konjak; daughter, Mary Ann Martin; brother, John Konjak.
Josephine was a life-long member of Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, Merrillville, where she was active serving as a Sunday School teacher, belonged to the “O” Club and Sodality. She was a Secretary and later President of the War Mothers Unit #46, and was a Den Mother for a Cub Scouts Troop. Josephine graduated from Longfellow Grade School and Froebel High School. She married Joe Chestovich on July 15, 1939, and lived in Tolleston and Glen Park where she raised her three children. She relocated to Portage, IN, following Joe's death in 1982 after 42 years of marriage, and later moved to Pineville, LA before relocating to Lebanon, OH. She was an avid reader and extensive letter writer. Josephine also loved animals and for many years volunteered at a local animal shelter. She was employed with the Anderson Company for 13 years and retired in 1965.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 DIRECTLY from Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 8600 Grand Blvd., Merrillville with Rev. John Russin officiating. At rest St. Mary Orthodox Cemetery. There will be one hour of visitation at church prior to service. Arrangements by Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, Merrillville.
