Isobel H. (Heron) Adamson
August 14, 1934 ~ March 16, 2022 (age 87)
Isobel (Heron) Adamson, age 87, of South Bend passed away peacefully at the Raclin House on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Isobel was born August 14, 1934 in Nielston,Scotland, to the late Harry and Agnes (Harper) Heron. She was married on July 20, 1960, in Scotland to the late Thomas Adamson who passed away August 10, 1988. They moved to the United States in early 1967 with their young children and started a new life in Indiana. Isobel and her husband were the founders and owners of Claymore Tools, a custom machinery and tool manufacturing shop in Mishawaka, IN. She was also preceded in death by a brother John Heron. A sprite Scottish woman with a thick brogue that lasted until her final words, Isobel was known to have to repeat phrases over the phone to aid the understanding of the listener on the other end. Making good on her Scottish heritage, Isobel was fond of playing golf with her husband, Tom. A woman committed to sharing this pastime as a treasure for her and her love, Isobel never completed another round of golf after Tom’s passing. Zealed by the activities of her children, Isobel was a Camp Fire leader for Nan, an avid Marian football game attendee for Tom, and the wrestling meet cheer section for David. In the fond pursuit of receiving her American citizenship, Isobel struggled for years to be registered with the US State Department, largely due to her challenges with her fingerprints (or lack thereof). No longer an “alien” as she was affectionately called by her children and grandchildren alike, Isobel became a naturalized US citizen on September 24, 2004. Gatherings for holidays were always made special by Isobel’s famous Scottish cooking and the gifts and gestures that spoiled her grandchildren, including Santa’s second visit to Grandma’s house and the kites left by the “Easter Bunny.” Board games including Trivial Pursuit, Taboo, and Pictionary were regular staples that left family and friends laughing until the “wee hours” of any occasion at Bama’s house. Always appreciating the humor of her family, Isobel was known to receive voicemails from son David and her grandchildren, poking jest at her most loving personality traits and characteristics. Many of these voicemails now decades old still reside on her answering machine and capture a snapshot in time of this woman’s laughs, love, and fondest memories. “Amazing” was the prefix assigned to her by her grandchildren and their Uncle David, and it was a title and charge that she lived up to every single day. After a life of loving memories made with family, friends, world travels, and laughs, Isobel weathered worsening dementia during the last ten years of her life. While these memories faded to meet her in heaven, she never lost her cheerful, happy, welcoming heart while greeting neighbors and loved ones in her home. She always loved when people visited her home for a cup of tea, a friendly chat, and a glance at the nature that blessed her backyard. Isobel was blessed by two incredibly kind and generous neighbors, Joan and Steve Ross, who assisted in Isobel’s daily care daily for the last four years of Isobel’s life. Their warmth, patience, and love for Isobel was insurmountable, and Isobel’s family is forever grateful to them for this kindness. The greatest gift Isobel received in her final years was the daily love and care shown by her daughter-in-law, Tonya. For eight years, Tonya took care of Isobel’s daily needs with an uplifting joy and incredible tenderness. No person served Isobel more lovingly, and Tonya’s love, kindness, and thoughtfulness for Isobel will never be forgotten. Isobel is survived by a son David Adamson (Tonya), son Tom Adamson, daughter Nan Cramer, eight grandchildren; Adam Gilbert, Kristin Gilbert, Devon Gilbert, Lindsey Gilbert, Thomas Adamson, Ansleigh Adamson, Nicholas Adamson and Rheese Adamson, a sister; Nan Matherland and three brothers; Tom Heron, Harry Heron and a sister-in-law Etta Heron. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthews Cathedral with Reverend Terry Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 23 at Saint Matthews Cathedral from 9:30 AM until 11 AM. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Center of Hospice Care in Mishawaka who took amazing care of her until the end, or St. Matthews Cathedral where she was a parishioner for 55 years. Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
