GITHENS, Carl L. 71, of Miamisburg, OH died Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Sycamore Hospital after a 26 year battle with cancer and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). Son of the late Orpha (Mills) and C. Lester Githens, Carl was born August 21, 1935 on a Warren county farm, the 8th of 11 children. After graduating from Springboro in 1953, Carl served in the National Guard 1952-1954, the U.S. Army from 1954-1956, and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. He graduated from Miami University in 1962, with a degree in Industrial Engineering and worked in industry several years before pursuing a career in real estate. Carl spent 25 years in real estate as a broker and served as the President of the Warren County Board of Realtors in 1988. He was named Warren County Realtor of the Year in 1989. Carl was an avid golfer and achieved two holes in one, one at Jamaica Run, 1998, and one at Weatherwax, 2004. Carl is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Gollihugh) Githens; 2 daughters, Angie Zajac & husband Kevin of South Bend, IN and Leslie Githens & husband Randy Gruber of Boston, MA; 2 granddaughters, Casey & Alexis Farnsworth; 3 brothers, John, Charles & Richard Githens; 5 sisters, Joan Wolfe, Ruth Greiner, Dorothy Trost, Martha Morgan & Linda Wasleff. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Vernon & Susan Gollihugh, and 2 brothers, Paul & Larry Githens. Funeral services 11 AM Friday, October 6, 2006 from the GEBHART- -SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE FUNERAL HOME, 508 E. Linden Ave., Miamisburg. Rev. Doris Arnett Whitaker officiating. Interment Miami Valley Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 AM until time of services. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the First Presbyterian Church in West Carrollton.
