SOUTH BEND - Herman E. Beutel, 81, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, in his home. He was born July 5, 1926, in Madison Township, IN, to Ernest and Anna Marie Beutel. On August 2, 1947, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Brucker. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her passing on December 2, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan L. Beutel on November 28, 2007; three sisters, Martha Harrison, Mary Guill and Lydia Heise; and two brothers, Carl and Fred Beutel. Then on October 2, 2004, in St. Jude's Catholic Church, South Bend, he was married to Patricia Wadzinski, who survives. Also surviving Herman are two daughters, Janice (John) Stitsworth of Osceola, IN, and Sharon (Garry) Fisher of Lake Havasu, AZ; two sons, Kent (Janice) Beutel of Osceola, IN, and Craig (Pauline) Beutel of South Bend. Nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive him; and a sister-in-law, Pat (Charles) Kelley of Mishawaka.
Mr. Beutel proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II. He retired in 1986 as general foreman at Indiana & Michigan Electric Company following 39 years of employment. He enjoyed traveling, and was a longtime active member of St. Jude Catholic Church and its Bingo Club. He was a member of Centre Township Lions Club, VREA - I&M Retirement Club, and Logan Adult Rehabilitation Organizations. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, in St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Graveside services and military rites will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 12, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Contributions in memory of Herman E. Beutel may be made to Logan Center, 2505 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46637; to Corvilla Inc., 211 W.
