SOUTH BEND - Nannette Kaye Szajko of Magnolia, Texas, the most wonderful mother, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 67 years old. She was born on January 17, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Edward and Esther (Morenc) Szajko. She is survived by her sister, Lynette Skarich of Clio, Michigan; four children, Lisa Laverty, Jeff Dobrucki, Jennifer Smitherman and Jason Dobrucki; along with seven grandchildren, Nicole, Jaclyn, Alison, Zachary, Harrison, Jacob and Shaylin, all currently residing in Texas. Nannette attended St. Hedwig Parish, graduated from St. Joseph High School in South Bend in 1963, and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, in 1989 with a BS degree in Criminal Justice. She worked in many fields including veterinary medicine, social work, and retail management. She was an avid gardener, reader, and musician. She also enjoyed photography, vacations to the beach, horseback riding, and raising many different kinds of animals. She was a very devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed. A "Celebration of Life Memorial" will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 5:00 PM, at 1425 Ulrich Road, Tomball, TX 77375. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Tomball VFW Post 2427. They will use the money to send care packages directly to the troops.
