GRANGER - Ardena Imogene Barbieri, 92, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at The Hearth at Juday Creek, Granger, IN. She was born on June 16, 1924 in La Crosse, IN, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Marsh) and Daniel Spiess. Ardena moved to South Bend, IN, in 1942. On November 17, 1946, in La Crosse, IN, she married Carl Barbieri, with whom she recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of Eastern Star, Chapter 2, for which she served twice as Worthy Matron and Chapter 569, for which she also served as Worthy Matron; and a member of Messiah Shrine No. 10 White Shrine of Jerusalem. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, hosting family gatherings and celebrations, traveling, especially to Maine, and sitting on the porch looking at the beautiful flower garden her husband created. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be greatly missed. Her family would like to thank the staff at Holy Cross Care Rehab Center and the staff at The Hearth at Juday Creek for their kind and gentle care. In addition to her husband, Carl, she is survived by her daughter, Gail Bontrager (Joe) of Rancho Cordova, CA and two sons, Craig of Elkhart, IN and Kirk (Renee) of Charlottesville, VA; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Barbieri and Corey Barbieri of Elkhart, IN; Sarah Bontrager of Rancho Cordova, CA; Joshua Bontrager of Charlottesville, VA; and Katherine Bontrager Quinlan (Michael) of Sunnyvale, CA; and 4 great-grandchildren, Katelyn Bloss of Elkhart, IN; Jason and Donovan Fredericks of Rancho Cordova, CA; and Skye Quinlan of Sunnyvale, CA; and two sisters, Priscilla Wright of Hanna, IN and Patricia Beecher of La Crosse, IN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Calling hours are an hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger.
