Patricia Joan Cortas, 75, of Elkhart, Indiana, died in her sleep on Monday, October 5, 2015 at her residence. She was born on October 30, 1939 in Great Falls, Montana to the late Henry and Lucille (Restelli) Konecny. She married her one and only love, Ralph E. Cortas, on August 10, 1963. Ralph survives, as well as their children; son, Edward (Tricia) Cortas of Louisville, Ky.; three daughters, Bernadette (Paul) Golitz of Chicago, Teresa Cortas and Deb Amore of Skokie, Ill. and Jennifer (Matthew) Howe of South Bend. She leaves behind twelve beautiful grandchildren, Nate, Ben, Joe and Michael Cortas, Lydia, Madeleine and Abigail Golitz, Claudia and Vivian Cortas-Stienke and Sam, Emma and Henry Howe; six sisters, Pamela (Gus) Bozzuto, Mary (John David) Walker, Margaret (Gary) Goodman, Nina Marie (Brian) Cunningham, Jennifer (Evan) Martin and Carolyn (Larry) Blosser; seven brothers, Dennis (Cathy) Konecny, Eugene (Linda) Konecny, Thomas (Tina) Konecny, Jan Martin (Denise) Konecny, Arthur (Phyllis Herceg) Konecny, Paul (Cathy) Konecny and Peter (Deb) Konecny. In addition to her parents, a brother, Rev Jerome C. Konecny and brother-in-law, John David Walker preceded her in death.
Pat graduated from St. Joseph High School in South Bend and attended St. Francis College in Ft. Wayne and St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame. She taught at St. Vincent dePaul Elementary School in Elkhart, before starting her family. She also taught CCD at Both St. Vincent Parish and St. Mary’s Parish Bristol. She currently worked as secretary and bookkeeper of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Bristol for over 20 years, where she was affectionately known as the “boss.” Her favorite times were taking care of her family, teaching, gardening and spending time in chapel.
