Georgia Slabaugh, 79, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at her home. Georgia Slabaugh was born in Michigan City, IN on June 7, 1943 to the late Clement Kopchinski and Patranella "Pat" (Miller) Kopchinski. She married the love of her life, Robert D. Slabaugh in 1965 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Erika Lynn Slabaugh and brother, James Kopchinski. Georgia is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert of Elkhart; daughters, Stephanie (Ron) Gerber of Syracuse, IN and Andrea (Stephen) Osborn of Granger, IN; sister, Suzanne Kopchinski of Michigan City; 3 grandchildren, Aubrey Gerber, Landon Gerber and Sawyer Osborn and nephew, Gavin Kopchinski. In her early years, Georgia was a radiologic technician. In fact, Georgia and Robert met while working together in the medical profession. Georgia enjoyed travelling around the world with her husband, Robert. Georgia was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She was a volunteer at Snite Art Museum on the campus of Notre Dame and at the St. Vincent De Paul Society. In her spare time, Georgia enjoyed drawing portraits and needlepoint as well as gardening. Georgia was very active and included exercise as part of her daily regimen. Georgia provided healthy meals culminated from new recipes. Georgia had a quiet strength and strong conviction. She would help out anyone in their time of need. Most of all, her family was her life and being a wife, mom and doting grandma was the highest honor. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at St. Thomas Catholic the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Fr. Andrew Nazareth of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the start of the Mass from 10:00am to 11:00am. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30am before the start of the visitation at St. Thomas. Graveside services will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery in Elkhart. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Catholic Relief Services, 228 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, MD 21201-3443.
