A Well Know Druggist Here
Michael G. Gnip, 53, well known local druggist died late Tuesday morning at St. John's Hospital. He entered the hospital Monday evening. He had been in failing health for the past 18 months. He was born Nov. 2, 1903, in Leavenworth, a son of John and Frances Gnip. His entire lifetime has been spent in Leavenworth. He was graduated from the St. Casimir Grade School and the Cathedral High School. He also attended St. Benedicts College. On June 10, 1936, at the St. Casimir Church he was married to Miss Martha Mary Zielinski. On Aug. 3, 1943, he purchased the Callahan Drug Store located at 5th Ave. and Spruce. Today, the store is known as the Gnip Drug Store. He was a member of the St. Casimir Church, the St. Barbaras and the St. Casimir's Society, the Kansas Pharmaceutical Association and the National Association of Retail Druggists. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha Mary Gnip, of the home, 459 4th Ave.; one daughter, Miss Mary Martha Gnip of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Catherine Kozak, 14 Rose, Mrs. Frank Hansel, Mrs. Felix Sosinski and Mrs. Andy Wasko, all of Kansas City, Kas; one brother, John P. Gnip, Jr., 508 Linn. Funeral services will be Friday at the St. Casimir's Church. Complete arrangements and the time of service will be announced by the Sumpter Funeral Chapel.
